About the project property
The house is located in Kritsa, Crete and has been owned by the current owner for the last five years but uninhabited for that time. Also, prior to 2002 it had stood empty for a number of years. The roof remains in relatively good repair and does not need to be replaced. There are no services in the house, although water and drainage pipes do reach the perimeter of the property on the path outside.

The property consists of three rooms on a single storey and a small courtyard and the rear room backs into the hillside. The side, internal and front walls are stone and the roof is flat concrete, making up for the lack of outdoor ground level space. There is road access to within 40m and then a short path, providing pedestrian access only, to the property.

The property has a large rear room with beaten earth floor, large main room with stone window and a small annexe room with window to a small courtyard at the front. There are views across the hills and to the sea, approx 6km away, from the roof. The house is known to be at least 80 years old
The property requires fully re-rendering, lintels replacing, plumbing and wiring, flooring and tiling in addition to the installation of a WC and kitchen area and new shutters, gates and doors. All this, though, has to be after obtaining the appropriate licences and connections and it's embarking on these that will be covered in our first instalments from the island.
Check back in August 2007 as we chronicle tackling the bureaucracy at the height of the Greek summer holidays. You may have noticed no timescale is anticipated for the project. This is Crete, after all, and this could easily take some time!
